Recommendation Letters

Singapore American School, May 2004

Singapore American School is fully accredited by WASC (Western Association of school and Colleges),is sponsored by the Office of Overseas Schools and US Department of State. SAS offers a US college preparatory course of study for over 2950 students of the American and international business and diplomatic community.

"Ms.Bravacic's ability and competence as a professional visual art instructor is evident from the first day she came on the board. She was able to provide a smooth transition and continuity of the program as well as to introduce numerous new and innovative concepts and skills to the students. Under her direction, many students have been inspired and motivated to pursue further education in art and design courses. The student exhibits were stunning evidence that a very talented, dedicated and professional art educator was guiding the artists. Each individual art piece depicted the highest quality."

Robert L. Gross,
Superintendant of Schools

"Milla is an artist and an art educator who has great energy and vision. In her time at SAS, I can honestly say she has had very strong and positive impact on our Visual Arts program. Very quickly she had our art students working and expanding their skills. As the high school principal I was delighted with the way she had our students happy and involved.

I am grateful to her efforts and offer my strong recommendation of her skills and experience."

Paul B. Chmelik
High School Principal

I came to Milica’s classes as an Advance Placement SAS student, but with a lack of skill in pencil/charcoal drawing. My level wasn’t good enough to be accepted into St. Martin’s College in London. Therefore, I hesitated to apply to the London Institute. However, Ms. Bravacic has convinced me that there are rooms of improvement with her help.

I have worked intensely with her for less than just two weeks. It was a highly demanding process, but she made me believe I could do it. Finally, I have been accepted into the London Institute Central St. Martin’s College.

It was a wonderful experience. Ms. Bravacic is a great educator.I can call her a hero of my life as she has made my dreams come true.

I have studied under Milica Bravacic for a period of ten weeks from September to November 2001 and would recommend her highly as a teacher.

On earlier occasions I have done many short art courses in Bangkok, Hong Kong and Singapore and have no hesitation in saying that Milica was the best teacher I have ever had. She is articulate, knowledgeable and extremely thorough.

Moreover, Milica has the ability to teach people of different ages and skill levels. In fact, to her credit she taught my thirteen year old daughter as well and managed to communicate at two very different levels at the same time. The fundamentals that my daughter learnt stood her in good stead when she was a student at the Singapore American School and has proved invaluable in the foundation year art course she is currently doing at The American School in London.

Milica’s teaching has changed my perception of seeing things. It’s only now I can understand the interesting meanings behind various elements and their arrangements in each frame.

In Visual Language, Milica identifies the potential of each individual. Her course is not just about reading visually, it is about understanding yourself better through the expressions in your work.

"I never thought I could be able to draw anything at all. One day, I took on this new challenge. Now, after 13 lessons with Milica I feel much more confident in developing my artistic skills. This course is helping me to see the things around me in a totally new perspective"

Paola Carroni, 'Paolayip Consultancy',
interpreter/translator for Italian Trade Commission, S’pore

I have greatly enjoyed my drawing class with Milica as my instructor. She has proven to be an instructor who is not only competent as an artist herself, but a teacher whose goal is for each student to truly develop specific skills in art. She makes the class challenging while showing great patience as we, students, develop our skills. I feel she would be a great instructor for any anyone wanting to learn classical drawing/painting skills.

I am currently residing in Singapore as an American ex-pat.
We have 4 children who attend SAS.

Milica is able not only to teach how to draw but also how to prepare oneself to be instructor in drawing. This has been fundamental to us as future instructors. She articulates the drawing techniques from a unique perspective-one that incorporates not only the classical academic tradition, but also Modern art history. As future educators we were especially keen in understanding such nuances and idiosyncrasies of teaching drawing, and were grateful to Milica's guidance as she has such a considerable experience.
